Foster Scott Lerner, DO, MA, MRO, NRCME
SECRETARY
Dr. Lerner is from Orlando, FL. He studied Biology at Baylor University in Waco, TX ('11) and Osteopathic Medicine at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL ('18).
Dr. Lerner is residency trained and board certified in Occupational and Environmental Medicine by the ABPM. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Preventive, Occupational, and Environmental Medicine at the School of Medicine of the University of Texas at Tyler (Tyler, TX). He is a core faculty member and ACGME Clinical Competency Committee member for the SOM's Occupational and Environmental Medicine Residency Program.
He attends patients and precepts OEM resident physicians at the Health Science Center Occupational Health Clinic, including various Fitness for Duty and Surveillance exams, treatment of worker compensation injuries, and travel medicine.
Dr. Lerner serves as the on-site clinical director of the OHC at a local Chemical Manufacturing Plant. He spends a half-day each week providing Correctional Medicine primary care to incarcerated persons in a local correctional facility. He coordinates with residents and leads the Walk with a Doc program at the Health Science Center during lunch monthly. He created and leads the Harsh Environment and Wilderness Survival and Injury Prevention (HEWSIP) Program for youth as a Community Engagement and Education program at the Tyler Nature Center for 2 hours each month. He is a NRCME (FMCSA), a CMRO (MROCC), and is Board-eligible for the DipABLM. He is a member of the planning committee for an upcoming Lifestyle Medicine Conference at the Health Science Center.
He performs peer review and expert testimony services in catastrophic case claims for a prominent Worker's Compensation Insurance company in Texas and is a member of that company's Physician Advisory Council.
Dr. Lerner is Secretary of the Southern Conference of Occupational and Environmental Medicine's Executive Board for 2026. His hobbies include violin, classical guitar, directing choral sacred music, and leading ballroom dance weekend retreats with his wife Juliana. They live in Flint, TX with their four children and two Anatolian Pyrenees dogs.
